where can i get a locking diff for my 2wd panel van ? ive heard the ozzy boy's are using them alot and they are good off road!
any one know any way's to get my 2wd better off road?

Tom's right,there's nothing quite like a syncro. If you want to compromise best go for a landy

I remember one Syncropendence when Andy Simpson's 2WD with locker was going places that some Syncros couldnt ...... don't knock the idea till you've seen one!

Go Westy do a limited slip diff which might be easier to fit.

All depends what terrain you want to cover.

Have seen plenty of 2wd's doing great stuff in Oz and Africa. Trick is to pick path and use deflated tyres. If you want to go mud plugging, 4wd is definate advantage (but tractors are 2wd). Downside to a 2wd with diff lock would be no low range (unless you modify gearbox ratios), not so good on icy / wet roads, and occassional cross axling / beaching resulting in no traction at rear - sortable by digging out, packing out under tyres, towing, winching, pushing, shouting "move you stupid bugger" - all depends how easy you want it to be.

2wd van with off road tyres, raised suspension, homemade underbody protection sounds quite good fun, and you'll pi$$ us all off when you don't have to worry about dodgy VC's. I did plenty of offroading with my syncro in 2wd (knackered VC). Covered 95% of routes and relied upon a helpful tow when I cocked it up.

Re: diff lock, I think I read somewhere that you can use a syncro rear diff but check with Aidan.

I think the casing would need to be machined to take the diff lock activation rod and other bits and bobs plus you'll need all the vacuum stuff as well. Aidan had one done recently I think ....

I can build any 2wd water cooled gearbox with a diflock if required , just use the case and diff from an old syncro box, cheaper than the peloquin diff - Andy's beast is one I built, I'll be doing one for the sika project shortly as that will be towing on and off grassy fields and doing donuts in the snow

Ummm - I fancy a diff locked sika to play with. Out of curiosity what's the cost of doing the work Aidan?

ive heard that they can be really good! in oz they are going on the beach's with them and stuff

i have my 83 panel van that i want to sell but if i can get it going with a rear locker or slip diff, i might bring it back to life!. ive got the option of a syncro at the mo but we had one before, and it's hard to trust them really, when i hav'nt got the money to fix it when it goes wrong, i want something that can be bashed about and used for work!

thinking i can lift it easy enough, biggest tyres i can get on, (do t4 15" steels go strait on?) the engine's good and the box is preety low geared !.
maybe even whack huge wide tyres on the back and smaller narrower one's on the front,so they bite in for direction- like the baja's

if any one want's to pm me price's for diff/ slip diff that's cool

have to agree with andrew on this on, i was behind andy simpson when we did the devon lanes. i was amazed at how far it would go and how well it performed.
