Water Pump Hose

Hi folks,

I'm having to replace a couple of perished/split hoses on my van.

The fuel hoses I can do but the hose that goes from my water/coolant pump to my header tank is causing me some confusion. This is mainly due to not being able to source a replacement. I've looked at VW Heritage, Brickwerks etc but can't seem to see one. Can anyone point me to the correct hose please?

That's a tough one as it's obsolete.
I could suggest you show it to a motor factor and ask them if they have any thing close that you could make fit.
or ask a silicone hose supplier if they could help?

not much help really unless some one here knows of a good second hand one from the forum breakers

Hmm,

Thanks for reply kev. The misses has taken the hose today to see if somewhere has anything remotely usable. I remembered Gunzl Classic Parts before but they seem to have everything but that hose for the cooling system.

Will report back any info for future reference.

Hi

I havent got first hand experience of using it but perhaps a length of flexible silicon hose would do. I keep meaning to keep a length in my travelling spares 8) box just in case. Normally sold by the meter and you can have it in a garish colour 8) if you are bored of black.

Try Pirtek. They have flexible hoses of all sorts of sizes sold by the meter

Cheers guys,

Misses came back from GSF with a hose that was the correct size but wrong shape, bending it caused pinching so no joy. Decided to put the old one back on with some PVC tape tightly wrapped round the split section. Tightened the jubilee clip and took her out for a spin, up to temperature and voila, no leaking.

This got me thinking that the split may of actually been man-made in order to fit the hose to the wider spout on the header tank. As I said the hose from GSF was the right diameter but there was no way it was going on the header spout. Hmm. Will have to investigate a more permanent solution.

Bigger fish to fry now as whilst I had her out I noticed the brakes aren't up to much. Well, the brakes are working but the pressure is very intermittent. A few times I hit the peddle only for it to hit the floor with no pressure whatsoever, and no deceleration either. A frantic couple of depresses later and normal service was resumed. Am guessing this could be master cylinder related, or a leak somewhere, either way its beyond my capabilities so it's off to the garage as apart from checking the brake fluid I'm stuck.

Cheers again for replies, much appreciated.

GSF sell the master cyl, so check up on the price and ensure the garage don't rip you off.

Hi
Does this hose change sizes end to end??
Marine parts stores, for yachts and powerboats, usually have reducing barbed connectors and also elbows, often of quite good quality.
You may be able to make up the right arrangement with these and the matching hose sizes.
I have some of these fittings on my engine now and have done 1000's miles through Fr/Sp/Port in the heat and mountains.
Suspect the tape fix wont last!! Bound to fail at worst time/location!!

Sounds good :ok

I go the the breakers and find summat that will fit.
If it needs to be sleeved down, I just cut a 2" wide bit of another hose and put that over the narrower metal pipe to get it to the correct diameter, then do up with a good quality new jubilee clip :)
Done this twice on my current van (once in a breakdown situation in N.Wales) meaning to do a proper job later and both repairs are still working fine 1000's of miles later.

Thanks guys, I hadn't even considered getting a hose to fit the wider end at the header and stopping down to the smaller connector on the pump. I'm guessing adding connections is to be avoided if at all possible, although I will check out the barbed connectors too.

Yes will ensure garage don't rip me off although been going there a while and they've taken some dosh off me down the years so here's hoping they won't this time!

There is enough of them on a T25 cooling system, I doubt that one more will make much difference, esp if carefully done :)
