Any recommendations? Prefer something close to city centre if possible and also not under flight path

I wish I could remember the name of the place we stayed at, it was in a small villade just outside the dam. On the inland sea coast. Had good bus links to the city.
I think it was slightiy souh of the dam.

Camping Zeeburg, originally recommended to us by LHD, was there last weekend, friendly place, real helpful staff clean toilets. Only 15 mins to city centre by tram - book in advance as they get busy! Think it was about £20 a night inc electric

hi,
stay in amsterdam quite a bit and have used zeeburg and vliegenbos and for me camping vliegenbos is the better of the two. stayed there over easter and it cost us 28 euros per night inc. hook up showers etc (some inc. zeeburg charge for showers) very good well set up site and about a 10 min walk to a free ferry which takes you to the back of central station so you are then bang in the centre of the city. forgot to say the ferry runs continuosly all day till about 1 in the morning i think and if your a bit of a night owl it'll cost about 13 euros in a taxi back to the campsite. hope this is of some help.
Mel.

Thanks Mel - I'd seen Vliegenbos and thought it looked good. Julie - let me know what you think when you come back!

You were? So were we! Were you the poptop in field C?
I can also recommend
Gaasper Camping - slightly further out than Zeeburg but a nice cycle and pretty good for public transport. Doesn't take bookings but its a big site and they've always managed to squeeze us in when Zeeburg was full. Nice facilities, bit more of a conventional family feel compared to Zeeburg's international backpacker hippy chic.

We have also stayed at vliegenbos, its a very good campsite, although do watch the UV lights
Its pretty handy 15 min walk to the ferry which takes ya to the main station in the dam.
