how do you get smoothest idle on 1.6TD?

It may be characteristic of the 1.6Td, and I have experienced it on both engines i've had, that a smooth idle ie not rocking the van, is hard to find and becomes variable depending how hot the engine is. I've no rev counter so i dont know how fast it is idling now but i end up finding it smoother at faster revs. I twist the nut that has a kind of sprung plastic lock at the end of it in a bit. Is this the answer or are there better ways to smooth idle. I guess my injector is sound as it was a reconditioned unit with engine swap.

could be air leaking into the distribution pump at the throttle arm.......

Im lost here. Pic? Is this expert stuff or can I check it by sight or anything. Or tighten something? Otherwise I have van that idles a bit lumpy now and then.

Mine does the same. Sometimes it's fine but others it gets lumpy and almost seems to be revving a bit high at idle.
If I'm stood still for a couple of minutes the lumpy feel grows but if you blip the throttle it goes back to smooth. Not had the chance to investigate myself yet.

yes. This is the experience I have at traffic lights. Ive become adept at just pressing the throttle a tiny bit to up the rev from lumpy to smooth. If I had rev counter i reckon its another 50 revs. very subtle.

right, lift the enjun lid, and on the top of the fuel distribution pump is the arm the throttle cable works, the seal under it is known to leak, which is why "blipping" the throttle makes a difference , although i dont "do" diesels, so i may be well wrong, try pressing the arm when its idling, see if makes any difference
