thermostat

I have a 1.6d van and i want to test my thermostat to see if its working. what do i do. I think it could be stuck open as when im on the mway my temp goes right down to cold. seems to be using more fuel too but this could be the price of diesel going up.

Take the thermostat out if it's stuck open you'll see
If its not then you can test it with boiling water in a kettle.... With the thermostat in it it should open at 87 deg c
If all thats ok then your problem lies elsewhere
probably electrical or the sender
either way its a cheap fix
