fitting a 1.6td

Ive ordered a sump gasket, and have downloaded the manual... very useful. I appreciate the idea of these forums is to avoid having to explain thing twice.. with the use of the wiki etc, but I must be missing something, as I cannot find answers to the following questions. Which Im sure must have been asked before.
All questions are in relation to a 1.6td (converting from its present form, as a golf engine)
1.) I assume there is no need for an 'Intercooler'? there must be a simple pipe? from the turbo to the inlet manifold? Im missing all of this (both the turbo-inlet pipe, and air-box etc... i was hoping this is something I can buy? if so where from?
2.) on the inside of the injector pump (engine block side) i have a stray metal cable inner. (bit like the inside of a pushbike brake cable). that has obviously been butchered on the engines removal from the golf. pulling this cable does something with the injector pump but I dont know what... I think its some kind of cold start? is this used on a t25? please explain. Its certainly not the throttle (i can clearly see where that goes)
