Mine flashes like mad all the time when the engine is running irrespective of engine temp'.
Cooling system is fine.
Any clues?

try 'shorting' the connector that goes to the header tank level switch, if that fixes it then your tank level switch is to blame. note the light will only reset if you turn the ignition fully off and back on again (start engine again)
I would clean up the earths just to rule that one out too, there are a shed load of them on a 'tree' behind the glovebox & fusebox on the nearside. good bit of sandpaper on there will do the trick
On the back of the binnacle (back of dash gauges), there is a little microswitch thingy with 2 or 3 prongs, I carefully took that out and gave the connections a bit of sandpaper treatment too. it's the logic thing that flashes the light depending on the input - it's a dual purpose thing, flashes when you lose coolant level but also at high temperature
be sure that you don't have more than 60% antifreeze concentration in your coolant, I have read that it may scupper your header tank level switch from working properly
hope that helps,
Brent

Sorted my flashing temp guage light! On recent journeys the temp guage constantly flashed & temp guage was at max...
Coolant level was full in the expansion tank & OK in filler bottle...I removed the connector from the top of the expansion tank, it seemed to come off too easily & I noticed copper wire showing so I wrapped some tape around the wires and reattached...
Started the engine, lights flashed, then stopped...sorted!!!
