The best 15" steel rim

I came across a set of Mercedes S Class steel rims off a 1988 W126 version today. They are 7J x 15H2 ET25 and are ideal for the T25 as no mods are needed to fit them. There is 40mm clearance between the tyre and the trailing arm and 20mm clearance between the tyre and sliding door. There are no issues at the front at all.

I fitted them to the 'Project Syncro' which is an empty van at standard ride height with no lifting at all. The tyres fitted in the pics are 205/65/15 and are the same diameter as the standard 185R14. These rims will take 215/75 and 235/75 BFG tyres safely with no fouling issues I reckon. Here's the pics ......

and this is what they should look like with a 235 tyre fitted. This was one of the French Syncro's at 25 last year.

That French syncro doesn't have the same rims on it.

As steelies go, those merc ET25 rims were by far the favourite ones I've had on my van. They'll still bend of course, but easy to bash out.

Think they look great with the slightly deep dish and they fill the arches nicely. Shame I can't find the same in 16".

I have some Audi A8 steelies, but they need spacers if you put big tires on and the center hole is to small :( Very solid wheels thought, steel is a lot thicker than the merc ones so they would probably be good for offroading.

Ive got 20mm spacers on my van at the moment...

What size is the center hole on the A8 rims? Got any pics of them?

Part number is A126 400 28 02 for the Euro spec wheel. There is an RSA spec wheel which is A126 400 39 02. Not sure what the difference is

The French rim was deffo a Merc rim but we'll see if he comes over to 'Syncro Eire' .... Ill nail him down to find out what it is! They will bend but I like that and will be easier to straighten than a Mefro plus they are one inch wider so a BFG 235 will fit snugly as recommended by BFG

As regards 16" rims, have you considered 'banding' the rims? You will need two rims for every finished rim as the make one wide rim out of two standard ones. It can work out expensive.

This is a pic I took of another rim at Syncro25

I have these on my doka with some 'Macho' MT tyres. Glad to know that BFGs will fit as the ones I have are "pooh" remolds that are starting to separate.
