Just completed it within 8 hours which is not bad going.

Thanks to this http://www.benplace.com/dash.htm and a bit of common scene it all went smothly.

Worse bits where removing the bolts that hold the matrix/blower unit in as two where stuck fast and a ba$^£& to get to.
Also the unit was glued which was a bit of a sod but not that bad.

JK fan blowers have two wires Brown and Red, connect the brown to the brown wire and the red to the yellow and ir will blow not suck!

So glad I tested it first!

How much dust did I hover up!!!

Nice write up mate , 8 hours is a long time ,Apart from the diff switches is the syncro dash any different from the 2wd ?
Maybe get Harry to wiki this ??

Oh I so dont want to do this on mine (or anyone elses..)....

But it will have to be done some time.. noisey fan wont last for ever...

its seeming like the life expectancy for all of them is round about now!....got mine via ebay from GSF £46 to my door....kind of wish it was so much more expensive, that would be a better reason not to do it
GSF one dodent have wires from it...just two spade terminals without colour....if its wrong i'm gonna sh*t!!!!!!!!

This dash job is a real pain in the A55. When I did the paint job on mine I replaced the wiper motor at the same time and did a load of headlamp relay work - all hidden away under the dash. Putting it back in is harder than taking it out but it's not something you can do during lunchtime!
Two days later when I was putting the final touches to the van I sheared the driver's side wiper spindle so the dash had to come out again !!!

I bought from Brickwerks as they connect up the right way first time and you can expect them to last a good few years. The fun starts when you find all the other little horrors from previous ownership
Replacing the screenwash hoses at the same time is probably a good idea - wish I'd though of that on the last one!
The difflock console is the worst bit, a bit of an afterthought from the SDP design office though...all screws and bits of bent tin plus the front locker "gate" spring that keeps flying off as you try and refit it all (or is that just mine?)

No ..... you are not alone

just wondered if its a good idea to lube the motor before putting it all back as its not something i wish to do twice...if so with what??........new motor by the way

I did give the last one a drop of oil on the sintered bush (the one you can see at the brush end) - I think it might have been clean engine oil!
Anything is better than nothing.

thats what i was going to do but sometime oil can do more harm than good as it attracks dust..its not wet so is it dry lubed????

The bush is sintered bronze (called Oilite) so the oil is held in the "grain" of the bronze, so it's dry but oily too. But I never trust them to have been oiled on assembly, it's usual to soak them in any other application before fitting.
