short intake manifolds

Hi, I have a 2.0l Aircooled CU T25 and I have just bought DRLA 36 duel carbs. I have been told the following by 'stateside tuning':"The USA manifolds will not work on a T25 due to the very low engine bay. The only answer is to use the german super vee manifolds with a 1.5" air cleaner." I have been quoted £179 GBP for the two manifolds from stateside tuning.

The picture of the manifolds below are from www2.cip1.com and are $179 USD.

The intake manifolds in the picture are CSP which I understand is a German company...could these be the 'short' manifolds that stateside tuning were talking about? If they are then that's a saving of around £70 if I buy from www2.cip1.com

Any advice on small intake manifolds would be appreciated.

Those in the pic wont fit your engine, Machine 7 have some short type 4 manifolds on clearance, but dont know if they will take the DRLA's..

Hi, I've just been told three times now by Aircooled.net that the following will fit my T25.

http://vwparts.Aircooled.net/Intake-Man ... t%20t4.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not going to hold my breath but Aircooled.net assure me (in capitols) THEY WILL FIT.
That was after they thought I had a T2 then a T3 Fastback/squareback/notchback, then I explained that it was a T3 or T25 which is known as a Vanagon in the states.

They told me they have a compact kit for the T3...when I asked them to send me the link for the T3 they sent me the same link to the T2. God knows what is going on.

I'm sure we will get there in the end. Going to save me over £200 so I can't complain.

The pic in your first post are type 1 manifolds...

The link to Aircooled net is deffo type 4 manifolds, but in the pic they dont look like shorties to me.. have they supplied short manifolds?

These are type 4 short manifolds... (hope link works) although I'd like to check a couple of things on them... I also dont know if IDA/IDF/DRLA have the same mounting flange..

hope the right thing arrives as you wont have saved much if they are wrong... :wink:

These are the short type 4 manifolds at Aircooled net..

These are the CIP1 type 4 manifolds (not as short..)

Oh and by the time you get anything from the USA it wont be much i
f any cheaper.. shipping, import duty and VAT will see to that...

And yes.. you have run into the T3 = type 3 / Transporter 3 trap.. I wont go into all of that.. there is a thread on here somewhere that does.. :rofl

I have just bought the last set of manifolds from machine7.com

http://www.machine7.com/product_highslide.php?xProd=432" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks Toomanytoys for the above link...you have saved my brain from a total meltdown and my wallet!

I have looked at the manifolds and the carbs and they will fit.
If not then machine7 return policy is pretty good so all in all I'm now happy.

Thanks for the advice form all.

dont forget to boss them for your brake servo....

Hi again, just an update on my DRLA carbs and intake manifolds. I've bought the manifolds below and the DRLA carbs all match perfectly...the only problem I have now is choosing the right linkage kit. I've been told that the linkage kit shown below my manifold pictures 'should fit'.
CB Performance over in the USA have said the following: If your manifolds look like our #3168 you could use that linkage.

This is a picture of #3168 Image ...as you can see the manifolds I have are much shorter.

On the coolairvw site it says: This series of linkage kits are designed to replace Weber or Dellorto Carburetor Linkage being used on straight intake manifolds.

So are my intake manifolds considered 'straight'? I have not got a clue if the linkage above will work or not. Has anyone got any advice? I really want to get this sorted asap. I've been researching for the past two weeks and I'm suffering from information overload - too much information can sometimes be a bad thing!

Many thanks.

it "looks" like the kit i had on mine.

but more importantly you need to boss both those manifolds for vaccume for the brakes :wink:
