Is it just me or is camping getting more popular, we've left it too late and can't find a single place to take us this coming weekend ... gone are the days when you could just turn up

It's the same with all the shows. I unfortunately can't commit to going somewhere months in advance. I think my head would actually explode if I tried to think that far ahead. Usually by the time we've decided that we want to go to a show it's sold out. This for me takes a lot of the fun out of camping. The whole point is being able to set off on a whim and go where you fancy.
We actually decided at the end of last year (before we got rid of the camper) that we weren't going to do any of the shows anymore and having to plan months in advance was a majour factor. They tend to all be a bit samey and the social interaction is much better at club meets than shows anyway because everyone's off doing their own thing, shopping, watching bands etc. So now I only do the club meets, with the only possible exception being Run to the Hills.

It does take the fun out of it ... we got our van to go to music festivals and do less of that now and more, just setting off and finding a nice place but increasingly our nice places have been sold out so we thought we'd book ahead ... no can do

... ho hum ... might drive to Scarborough for a picnic

There's still space at the Bashtie. Long way I know, but a fair few Yorkshire folk make it down there!

Our favourite summer campsite is always fully booked, last year at departure time we tried to book for the following year but arriving a day later for our usual two week stay.....
We were told they couldn't do that as they were already fully booked!!

so we have had to take the exact same weeks that we had had that year, which has meant that I have had to take an extra days holiday from work or risk losing our pitch!!

Agreed! We have spent more time on the internet or phone trying to find somewhere decent thats not rammed to overflowing, than we actually have camping. One bad experience will put me off a place for a long time - so far so good tho!

yeah, definitly and don't the campsites know it! What's with all the pricing recently. When we were kids we would go and pay for our pitch and that was it, now on top of pitch price I have to pay per child per night ( I have 3), dog per night, awning per night (to chuck in said children and dog lol!) and then if we want hook up...... So not only do we have to book 6 months in advance but it also takes that long to save up
