Poor Traction

Hi....
Little bit of mud or damp grass, and I am stuck. 1700 Diesel. Any tips on how to improve? But not GO AND BUY A SYNCHRO LOL. Would if I could. Best tyres? etc or gearbox / Diff Mods. Running on 14" rims would 16" or 17" be better?
Cheers for all the great tips that are to follow, Kev :ok

I've never got stuck on wet grass or mud and I'm just running stock van tyres in 185/14 size. Starting in 2nd can reduce wheel spin.

LSD or difflock upgrade, as part of a rebuild, not cheap, in the meantime get some mats and park the rear wheels on them, as long as you can get some forward momentum, the tyres have some tread and you are gentle with the right boot you should keep moving, getting the wife and kids to give you a push off will also help

don't floor it and drop the clutch.. or sit there with the wheels spinning. :D :D

gently does it, almost stall the engine with very low revs and precise clutch control... it's all about momentum
wheels make no difference, and wider tyres make it worse .

I've used snow chains in the past but they are a hassle to fit they dont take much room though I have been on really bad mud and I only got stopped by grounding out. Auto socks may work, I've not tried them in mud yet, may make things worse. Next time I'm in a bit of slutch I may try them out. They certainly do the business in the snow, if they work in the mud too you get some summer use out of them! For £60 quite a bit cheaper than 4 wheel drive system!
