The reality is that you'll be VERY hard pushed to find one that doesn't have hidden rot (ie its been filled) or has obvious rot. The type 2 has its charm but as each year goes by, they got older and older. Lets face it, most Type25s have rot here and there now.

A Type2 is great - if you really like welding. Structurally the T25 is made of stouter stuff. As I mentioned in another post ( http://www.club80-90.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8629 ), the basic Beetle engine does have much to offer (in its own way). The trouble is, most Type2s are 1600 and in a world that seems hell bent on going at breakneck speed. Its not so much that the T25 is better - thats not a fair comparison - they are just different beasts. The T25 is an infinately better ride (certainly better for fast steering and corners) but the type2 has a kind of damp earthy charm too (well all the ones I've been in have smelt damp anyway). Theres also the heating issue. It has to be in tip-top order to keep you warm in the winter.

I dunno. I like ALL the Types to be honest. The T25 was as good as it got though and its bigger of course:)

Hello

We have had one of all types over the last 13 years and two months ago bought our first type 25 westy joker. Will never back my husband now is seriously thinking of selling our split he has had it for 6 years and has never thought about it till the westy came along. They are great more space easy to use and I'm hooked now I'm I am agreeing that split split can go I love my westy wedge. Stick with the T25 the others are to expensive and need to much work.

We must remember that Type2 owners are sensitive souls and rightly love their buses. Its not our place to mock those less fortunate anyway - not very PC.

Simply put, a Type2 is a hobby (and a full time endless restoration at that). For now, the T25 is a way of life....er till the rust worm catches up and then there will be T4 owners asking if they ought to change to T25s. No matter WHAT you do, rust will inevitably beat you to it - in the meantime make hay while the sun shines and grin from ear to ear as you bomb along in your wedgies.

Tut tut tut,
All the vans are Type 2s. the old bays and roundy ones are T2s, the bricks are T25, (or T24s) Type is different than T.
They are known in Europe and more commonly around UK as T3s, but for some strange and UK reason we like T25s, cos thats what it says on the vin plate.

Sorry, I'll go now...... :D

Do it Timmo, T2s are much cuter and rounder and stuff. No one needs to go the speed these vans can, I'm surprised all our brains don't explode (perhaps some folks have) and the sharp corners? You could take someone's eye out with my van. Extra crash protection only counts if you have an accident and anyway we feel so safe in our car proof boxes we are probably worse drivers now than Volvo owners. Think of all the cool people who have VW vans, none of the really famous ones have T25s. Who'd want to be like us?

I'm thinking of getting a Comma!!

The only T2 I would convert to is the new Danebury vans.

I love the T2 look but I think I am not alone in not being of bottomless wallet.

The T25 is probably the best value camping whilst still being part of a community.

I know other peopple with Transits ans coomer vans etc and its not the same.

I a few years to come I will probably buy a T4 !!!sorry

Not that likely.

More likely we would buy a T25 Caravelle and convert it ourselves
