it it possible to get the blower fan motor to run backwards from the switch. fan has given up working but i don't think its dead!. if i switch to 3 it pops the fuse but if i just tweak the switch to 1 i can hear a knock as if its trying.....just wondering if its jamed by something, maybe reverse will free it?????.....i so dont want to pull the dash apart if there is a chance...........

I'm not sure...But before you do anything major I recommend replacing the blower motor switch first (£6.50 on Just Kampers) just in case.

My blower stopped working, I removed the blower controls and had a poke around, I remember turning the blower switch beyond the third setting & thought that wasn't good. I replaced the switch before attempting anything major & the new switch did the job!!

yes you can , you need to disconnect the plug from the back of the switch, and disconnect he earth wire (Brown) from the earth point below the dash, and then you can reverse the polarity, AT YOUR OWN RISK.

sadly not the switch as i have another identical next to it that blowes to the rear.....and that proved switch is ok......BUM!

all sounded great until; the last bit about "at my own risk"......don't like the thought of melting wires

Even if its not dead, if its the original, chances are its seen better days and for £30-£40 for a brand new blower and half a day getting to it, you might as well fix things for good. From experience, most attempts to revitalise the blower are temporary and time consuming considering how difficult it is to get at. They either seize or the brushes go. I got mine going with WD40 - for a while, but still ended up stripping out dash a year or so later and fitting another.

Stripping the dash is a great opportunity to re-grease wiper mechanism (or replace its motor), replace all the washer pipes, clean the earth crown really well, repair rotten windscreen lip, generally tidy all the spaghetti under there and umpteen other jobs that you can only do properly with dash out. This time of year its reasonably pleasant to do but once winter returns, the temperature plummets, the blower or wipers go, you'll kick yourself for not doing it when you had the chance.

yeh..i've takenon board what i really didn't want to hear , so its off with the dash....man am i not looking forward to doing this!!!!

I did it last year under the guidance of Covkid and others - it feels like open heart surgery but isn't actually that difficult!

Plus you can have all manner of fun tidying other bits and bobs up while you're in there

Yep, it sounds (and looks) much worse than it is. You'll probably need an impact driver or a HUGE cross-head screwdriver in some places. Remove steering wheel, undo retaining bolts and lower column (not remove as Haynes state) with seat removed. Should give you all the room to get dash out.

What you might consider is strapping a new ancillery fusebox (£10-£15 from Halfords) alongside existing one while everything is disconnected so all those add-ons piggybacking off other fuses have their own individual fuses. Get someone making you tea - it helps boost enthusiasm.

Oh yes, and disconnect battery before you begin.

Repaint rusty edge of dash while its out too.
