Hi all, i have a question, my van was originally a 1.6 td, van with no rev counter, i have since installed a 2.0l golf gti engine, 2e. I managed to get some clocks from a 2.1 inj van with a rev counter, now after countless searches and trying a few things i am stuck, i understand that the bright green wire feeds the signal for the rev counter so i traced it back to the fuse box where it seems to stop, i thought that it then turned in to the black and red wire that went to the W connection on my old diesel altenator, so i connected this to the neg on my coil in the hope that the rev counter would wake up, but it didnt, i am assuming that because my van didnt have a rev counter as standard then some sort of connection has to be made along the line or do i just bite the bullet and run a wire the length of the van from the neg of the coil and then splice it into the green wire at the back of my clocks??? Any help will be greatfully recieved, cheers.

if was a TD then it's post 1986 so it has BOD circuit so it has rev counter signal to dash and that signal splits on the flexi circuit board to go to both the BOD circuit and (if fitted) the rev counter - the circuit involves crossing the fold in the circuit board where the multiplug connects and often it is here that you will find a break in the track - can be repaired with conductive paint
your signal from engine bay/coil should go to pin E12 on the fuseboard and then comes out of D19 on green and goes into D26 and then comes out at B19 going to the dash 14 pin multiplug pin 9
