Hey All,

Just had a very nice long weekend down in West Sussex, staying at the Acorns campsite near Angmering - not far from Arundel.

It is a really nice independent site - only 18 pitches, some powered. We drove down on Friday evening and arrived at around 17:30. It was a really nice, sunny evening and a fantastic spot in the woods - very tranquil. You turn into the site through a metal gate and immediately feel like you're in the middle of the woods.

The owner, Albert, gave a friendly greeting and offered us the choice of pitches.

The facilities are clean and modern - male and female, each with two free showers and two toilets. The doors are secured by code. There is also a washing up area along with a bookshelf to borrow/swap from.

We cooked on site the first night - raised, gas BBQ/hob only, no open fires and whilst washing up a wild red deer strolled by! The bird-song in the morning was quite incredible.

Now, I know that different people want to take different things from camping. For us, we love just getting away, enjoying the countryside, walking and relaxing. This site suited all of those requirements very well. The terms and conditions in full appear on the website (http://web.mac.com/acornscamping/iWeb/A ... lcome.html) - but basically, there are no ball games allowed, no noise after 23:00 and restrictions on the number of families on site. There is no seperate play area on site. As a couple wanting to chill and take it easy, we were happy with this.

There is a pub a short walk away and 10 minutes down the road is Angmering where there is a chip shop, an Indian restaurant and a Co-op food store.

There is a nature trail through the woods on site - only 10 mins walk but nicely presented, set up by the local Girl Guides.

The cost was £18 per night and a minimum of 2 nights booking is required.

On Saturday we walked to the coast and along to Littlehampton for lunch before heading back - a 10.4 mile round trip. It isn't the prettiest walk I've done - some of it is along main roads etc - but it was nice to see the sea and the weather was good. We ate in the East Beach Cafe in Littlehampton which was excellent.

On Sunday we were up, packed and gone before the midday check out time and spent the day exploring Chichester.

If you're after a quiet campsite for a restful weekend, I would recommend Acorns.

Laptop for DVDs/TV in the van - I know it's not everyone's idea of relaxing whilst camping, but we don't often get a chance to veg in front of TV at home, so this was a treat when it was dark outside!

Cool. Didn't see any T3s down that way when we were there (shame, had my waving hand at the ready!).

we were camping up the road. we have 3 T3's, a T4, 2 Karmann Gypsies and a Karmann Cheetah in our little gang. Havent tried Acorns yet but might give it a go, although we like a fire (converted gas 13kg gas bottle) and a bit of a later evening than 11.

without trying to offend anyone we wouldn't stay here for more than a minute. I would drive past without looking. I know exactly what kind of site it is just by reading the "contract". NO fires, no noise, no kids playing(ish) dogs bound and tied, no mechanical or repair work!(that'll exclude most T25 owners), £2 for visitors(hahahahahahaha) and that's after a consultation, no rope swings, special ground sheets, oh the list goes on. As i say, I'm not trying to offend but for the reasons up above I'M OUT.

Horses for courses. At least they are up front about it, giving people the opportunity to make an informed decision.

It worked for us - no kids, no dogs and wanted peace and quiet.

Unless your name is 'Mork', that's something you don't have to worry about!

Seriously though, I pointed out in my first post that there were such restrictions because I knew it wasn't for everyone. I can appreciate that people with kids, pets or who want to have a more lively site wouldn't want to go there.
