2226cc 5cyl Audi Motor into T25 anyone?

Has anyone done this?
I remember seeing pics some time back from someone in Europe that had put a 5 cyl Audi lump in the back of a T3.
Does anyone know the ins and outs of such a conversion?
Idea is a 2226cc Turbo motor, for "Projekt RS-T25"
Ideally mated to an Audi 6 speed box, rather than using the stock VW box.
Any input welcome.

Think it will have 5 reverse gears and only 1 forward. But may be corrected. Car wrong way around ?

5 reverse gears - would suit the Italian army... Could the diff be turned upside down to correct this?

i have been looking at this one far a while and asked the question of flipping the diff or box on another forum, there was no reply to question,
have been measuring up to see how far it would come into van if the motor and box was mid mounted, any info on flipping the diff would be appreciated as it would save me cutting a hole in the floor

You can't flip the diff, the way the audi casting is done dictates that the diff will only go in one way. You could flip the box upside down but then you still need an adapter so you may as well go for the porsche box which is stronger anyway.

A Porsche G50 box looks like the best option from what I can gather.

it's the best in terms of strength and performance but it's a lot of hassle to fit in terms of mating it to the engine. The adapter is fairly straightforward but the clutch and flywheel is a real headache. The simplest way is to have a new flywheel made (£££££) to take the g50 clutch (£££££). And as the g50 bell housing is very deep then you'll probably have to have that machined too (££££) Or you can beef up a t25 5speed and use a South African 5 cylinder bell housing. Either way get ready to spend some serious money

Just read this in the WIKI pages:
Audi 5 Cylinder
Available in 2.0, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.6 flavours, running various different injection systems and turbos. Not a conversion for the novice. This requires substantial bodywork adjustment, bracketry fabrication and needs specialist parts. Can be mounted using an adaptor plate, or a genuine South African bellhousing (expensive, but allows use of more stock parts. This engine will foul your engine cover.
+ 130bhp and upwards, excellent longevity, lots of torque -You will miss your life while installing it (or pay a lot for someone else to do it), that's a lot of weight at the back of the bus, brush up your welding skills, get friendly with your insurance company, get your wallet out, you sure about that gearbox ?
These engines really are lovely in T25s, but it's a lot of work.
Basically, the concept was to build an RS2 based T25 to go with our RS2.
Not as straightforward as it seems but where there's a will, there's a way!

Have done this conversion many times including 5 pot diesles.
If u arent willing to spend the money and use the genuan SA parts dont bother going any further.
I have seen many adapter versions of this and they dont come close to the proper version.
Be prepared to spend and do a lot of homework.

Russel, can you give an estimate of how much it would cost for conversion bits not including the donor vehicle. just considering the possibilities for the future and wondered wether it would be feasable.
