door locks.........

hi all

we bought our first camper 4 weeks ago and spent hours refitting it ready for our first camping meet The Big Bang 2011.

the problem i have is the door locks on the passenger door and side sliding door don't work with the keys, so i have to open the driver door and climb over.... so i need to know what other VW cars use the same door barrels which i can modify to fit. im on a budget so at the moment i don't mind having several keys.

any help ?

The barrels need 're-tumbling' the little 'blade' keyways need swapping out on a common key.
I have a few lock spares if you are close enough I could do this for you....(Nottingham)
Otherwise there will be others on here with the parts to do this.

thanks Martin

unfortunately im a long way from Nottingham but thanks for the offer

ive seen the re tumbling done before by a friend in his workshop (on a Punto) it could be the same procedure, so i could ask him, do you know if Golf MK1or 2 barrel blades work as those lock are easily available on ebay and i could cannibalise them for the bits to fit my keys?

cheers

They look the same but I'm not entirely sure if there are any differences (longer/wider etc). Someone will be along who knows for sure.

Hi

i purchased from ebay some random Golf MK1/ Mk2 door handles with barrels and keys, and although the barrels are slightly different to the T25 barrels the blades are the same so i was able to take all the barrels apart and select the correct blades and re build the barrels so that they all fitted just one key so now i have all doors and ignition locks working off just one key :-)

but to do this you will need a steady hand and patience as the parts are very small and there are several very small springs that can ping across the room, also you need a small thin punch or nail with the sharp end ground down to remove the locking pin which holds the barrel in the front door handles this can be a pain....

but all worth while

hope this new found info helps anyone else who has the same problem
