Travelling to York

Hello All,
We're thinking of pootling our way to York from Mid-Wales (home is near Devil's Bridge). We'll make our way to Shrewsbury, but from there, we'd like to take the most scenic route across England with atleast one stopover before arriving in York. So, does anyone have any recommendations for a really attractive drive? And with quiet camp sites along the way?
Cheers,
Sal

Hello there. So you won't be coming via the M62 then!
Seriously, coming from central Wales, you don't really have a lot of choice in that you have to go through the midlands of some sort and then on to a motorway (M6, M62, M42, M1 A1M) before you get to Yorkshire and they aren't particularly pretty.
I think your options are:
Yorkshire Dales - head up the M6 towards Preston then turn off just before for the Skipton area. The road from Skipton goes straight through Knaresborough and Harrogate to York (A59).
Just head straight to York - there are lots of lovely places around York (Scarborough, Whitby, Brid) and the Yorkshire Moors.
The other option would be to head through Derbyshire - again, lots of lovely countryside and little market towns
Whichever way you go, have a great time!

Thanks for this.. Yes, I initially thought that there were too many motorways, and I get the heeby jeebies when I leave the uncluttered spaces of Mid Wales. Anyway, both your options are good so I'll set my mind to them.
Thanks again,
Sal
