VDO Wiring Installation

Hi guys,

I am trying to find out the best / easiest way to get a switched live, earth and illumination live for my gauges.

From what I have read on here the best place for a switched live is the thinner black wire coming from the ignition barrel. Can anyone recommend the best way to splice into this?

The earth I will get from a nearby clean bolt to the bodywork or something.

As for the illumination live for the lights in the gauge, can I splice onto the back of the dash light switch? And will that mean the dimmer also adjusts the gauges?

Also do I need to use a fuse for any of this? or due to very low current draw will I be OK just splicing in?

Cheers

Don't suppose anyone can explain to me where the switched live part of fuse board is? I am guessing there will be all sorts there (perm live, negative, ign on etc)?

Mine is the early blade type on also. Would it be a case of just sticking spade on? Does it have to have a spare / empty blade socket?

Thanks :ok

Ahhh that changes it ! get a haynes manual and look up the wiring diagrams on there, should soon find one!
