Following on from phils thread, i had a trial fitting of the different interior layouts for my van.
I'm torn now, really like the multivan unit. Really like the other unit. I could sell both and get a quite decent westy interior. What do i do.....................

I'm kinda thinking. 1,sell multivan unit. 2, sell other unit. 3, sell multivan interior.
should get a fair whack for those three. Might (big might) then be able to buy a complete grey interior. Or sell 1 and 2 and buy a slightly earlier cream/brown interior bus and swap interiors, or just buy a cream/brown interior.
Or just stay as i am Wife would like a full on camper and i can understand why, but i also like the set up now

Well now you've drilled holes in the floor, I'd say go for 2 but with a jump seat by the door.
I now see what Andrew meant about the multivan unit - without a hightop it is a bit of a monster, especially if positioned on the slider side.
Is this all because you've busted your diesel and can't stop fretting over the van, Lloyd?

As I said on the other thread the Westy cooker unit is really good. I was unsure weather to use the syncro or the 2wd westy for our holiday. So glad we took the syncro not just for getting to places a 2wd couldn't, but the layout really suits us at the moment. So much so that I will be selling the 2wd westy that I loved for so long.

The way to decide is to use it as it is and see how it works for you, or doesn't. The way I understand it, you bought it for holidays. If the current interior doesn't suit with the removable units then maybe you should sell it and buy a Westy Syncro.

What you have is pretty rare. How would you feel making it into a copy of something else?

I would feel bad, which is why i've resisted changing it. To be honest i'm bored with it just sitting on the drive, and my minds running overtime . Engines being done next week, then i've got bashtie, then a week off without the kids then a three week tour planned for the start of august. Like you say, will give it a year as is, then see. I'm happy with it, wife would be more happy with a full on camper.
I actually really like the interior, quite adaptable. And i will resist my usual fix and sell habits As i don't think i could ever replace it, i mean to own a syncro is one thing (rare on it's own), but to then own a model with such small numbers built, i feel quite lucky to own it.
Just want to get camping in it, and use the blooming thing!

Just had a look at your pics and there is no way I would use the tall unit. It is out of proportion.

When do you expect to get your van back? I think once it is back on the road concentrate on using and abusing it and less on mods and bling.

Its actually bigger than it looks and is relatively heavy as well. The thing I didnt like about the unit was that it took away the versitility of the 'walk through'. I like the look of the smaller unit though

Its fine when moved to opposite side to the slider, table still lifts up ect. and i quite like it there, by the slider its too overpowering

The small unit is great, the multivan one might end up being rehomed, as i dont think we will ever use both at the same time, and the small one is a lot easier to move around on your own. But i am still able to walk through the front seats?

I think big unit at far side , (does it work turned around with the drawers sliding out toward the centre of the van??) little unit at door, handy for a brew and quickly removed....these things tend to require an element of 'suck it and see'. I would suggest packing the van and the units with all the stuff you will have with you on a trip, its no good throwing all the furniture out and ending up having crates on the floor for all your stuff. Practical, usable space is more critical than appearance and the two units do look 'matched' and the value and versatility of a quickly removable interior is not to be underestimated. If you go with a full built in camper interior, it is there for the duration including fridge vent holes etc..

PS the lad that dropped that unit over for me would have it back if you are selling

Grey westy interiors come up on German ebay now and again.
I would keep what you have for now, and when a good one appears take a trip to the Fatherland and pick it up, could be between £700-£1000 but it would add money to your un-original Westfalia camper.

For now it will stay original.......... I was never never go out tomorrow and buy an interior.
I would have just kept my eyes open for a bargain. If i End up deciding I can't live without a full on camper, I might sell so this one stays original. Just can't picture myself selling though....

You never know, after the magazine feature the offers might start rolling in........

You should have bought a common-or-garden syncro Westy really but who am I to say?
I keep looking at the broken-down SA and thinking "now, that dent in the roof is a shame, maybe I should put a Colorado roof on it after all..."
