Cutting out.

Took the van out last night to pick the mrs up from a mate's house. It's only about 1/2 mile. Drive there was fine but on the way back it kept losing all power and stalling when coming off the throttle.

Nursed it back to our parking space and it stalled. I fired her up again and revved her a bit and it was ideling really low for about 30 secs then picked up and was fine.

Then again this morning on our way to work about 1/2 mile into the journey she did it again and then stalled. Restarted her and she was fine all the rest of the way.

She's a 1.9 DG on an F plate and I had no warning lights come on until the usual dashful when she stalled. Checked Oil and water, water full oil was down to min but not below. Checked all leads on dizzy and plugs and everything looks cool. THe only thing is I was reet low on fuel and I think maybe there was some "pooh" in the bottom of the tank that may have caused this.

Anyway the reason for my post is to see if anyone has experianced anything similar that may suggest it wasn't just a fuel problem. We're off to Vanarchy at the weekend and I could do without breaking down plus the honeymoon is only 4 1/2 weeks away and I could do without it being broken as it's going to be our home for those two weeks.

I'd just built up my confidence in it after having had it for 2 and bit months with no problems so far. I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing but with both our other cars off the road with problems and things coming in threes etc!

Fuel, low on, caused this, in all likelyhood. I knew before I got to the bit where you answered your own question ;) Being a bit skint is a bugger. You may have to mess with the fuel filter (there should only be one but check for more) now to boot. :(

fuel filters are under 2 ££.................make sure you only have one
often former owners have fitted extra ones
there should be one just after the tank, no extra ones in the engine bay

CHeers guys,

I have run it low on fuel a couple of times and this hasn't happened before but I know crud can get stirred up sometimes and others not.

I'll have a look at the fuel filter tonight.

Thanks again, I was pretty sure that's what the problem would be but I just wanted some reassurance it wasn't the symptoms of something horrible!
