hi all
it been a long time since ive been on here as weve had 2 kids and no time but i need your help ive got a 1990 1.9 wbx and last night the oil light and buzzer come on so i pulled over and checked the oil level and it was ok . does this mean i need a new engine ?. as its sounds fine and has good power. i had to take us out shopping today so i took it slow and the light didnt come on?.if i do need a new engine i would like to fit a scooby but the time it would take and the room i would need, i dont think it would be practical . any help would be great.
thanks carl.

Check and change the oil pressure switch?
Is the engine getting hot? Smoking or owt? If not it points to a rather less exciting failure and one that needs less engine swapping etc

No its not smoking or running hot and still goes very well.
i have to top the oil up about every 5 weeks from min to max oil level.
i got the van 6 years ago and converted it to a camper running on lpg.
it has covered 175000 miles now but from the stories ive heard about these engines think it may be the 2nd one. i do all the servicing on it and it does get looked after, oil change every 6 months.
is there any way of checking the oil pressurer switch or just buy a new one ?
thanks carl

you need a oil pressure tester that screws into the hole that your oil presure low oil switch fits, that's the one between the pushrods on 3 and 4.
I've got one if you want to borrow - where are you.
I'm home if you want to call me.

Hey Carl, you still monitoring us ?
Did you get it sorted, what was it in the end ?
My newly aquired DG powered camper has started to randomly doing the same
Not had time to look properly yet, just gathering info till the weekend.
Back in the Scirocco for now.
