Hi does anyone know what the ballpark figure is for a gas conversion to my 82 Devon Air cooled??? many thanks.

look here for more info. Steve comes highly reccomended and has done lots of conversions for people in the club. Not forgeting Pete (Headley 18 ) the southern rep who did mine, again highly reccomended by all who've had the pleasure to meet him.

Gordon Finlay is considered one of the experts in lpg kits, and they also do a DIY kit.

I have fitted them myself before, and to be honest, any competant mechanic can do one

sure the insurance company will love that reply
"and who fitted your LPG kit sir", answer "Joe Bloggs from the pub, but he is a competant mechanic"
but then again, you are only talking about putting a highly flammable substance in a cylinder compressed to whatever degree 3 feet in front of your children

Its no more flammable than petrol.

and not all insurance companies bother.......I know NFU dont ask for certificates or anything and it realy is an easy job to do.


Also if you do a google search you will find folks selling refuelling valves that let you fill with propane (same gas but 18p litre) but now working for revenue and customs i couldnt recomend you do the search

The red bottles you use for your cookers etc.

If you look at fork lift trucks they run on it from bottles which they change when empty.

Years ago I used to run a Land Rover on bottled gas (just used the bottle with a regulator on in place of the tank), but like I said, you can get a valve to fit on the gas bottle that will transfer it to your lpg tank. Not legal, but would like to know how the ministry could test the gas in your tank

Didnt ring NFU then, and to be honest Peter Best who do classic stuff never bothered me on my Series 2 Landie (then again they wern't bothered about the V8 or extreme suspension kit. You can find the odd insurance company that dont want to rip you off or find ways of not paying out.....but they are few and far between
