Hello,
I've hit a snag in my rebuild, or should I say a first snag. I cannot get my Brand new and shiny Bluebird 3/4 width bed level in the bed postion. I don't know how far up the sloping bulkhead I need to drill for the bolts, or the postiion of the front support for the bed.
Can anyone who has fitted one of these please give me rundown on how they did it. Building the Platform at the back is not a problem, but I am ready for attacking the bed with an angle grinder, mainly out of frustration.

I had a similar issue with mine, looking at the instructions it would seam that you have to have the horizontal part of the side frame horizontal, when in actual fact my brackets are about and inch or so below the top of the bulk head and sloping down considerably, and then the under seat frame is just bolted square to the floor - i found out the hard way and had to bung a couple of drilled holes.

I can take a couple of pics if you need it?

Thanks for that, I would appreciate a picture of where your bed is if thats not to much bother. Like you I thought the side bits should be horizontal but the instructions were worse than useless.

Bluebird beds are designed for bays that have a higher engine bay.

You have to build up a bed base at the rear. Mine is fitted so the back sits on the z shaped metal piece that comes with the bed for support then I made one using B&Q wood. I measured up exactly and got B&Q to chop the wood to the sizes I want (15 free cuts per transaction). Obviously B&Q only do straight cuts so the little extra cut outs around the furniture and the angle needed for the plywood piece along the window side I did myself (the van side is not 90 degrees)

The height of my bed base was exactly the right height for using 4" high wood battons with a 12mm ply on top. I made a seperate removable box for accessing the engine. See below

Thanks for that Cruz. I know that the bed will be about four inches above the engine bay and building the base at the rear will not be an issue. My problem is getting the bed to lie flat when in the bed position. I assumed that the side parts that bolt onto the rear bulkhead should be horizontal as shown in the insrtuctions, but this is apparently not the case.

This may sound stupid but when i went to a big dump with my mum a couple of weeks ago, we past a tatted looking metal frame bed. Have you tried at such places yet? Also, maybe at a car boot sale or something!
