Electric window trouble!!!!

Hello All
Just accquired a vw golf cabriolet (Karmen) `96 this weekend have a problem with the lecky windows!!
They go down no probs but will not come back up unless i use the key in the lock??
Has anybody had ths fault before or knows what the problem is please let me know its doing me nut in
