Ferry with the lads advice please

My and 4 mates are hoping to go on a road trip from Bournemouth to the south west coast of France for some surfing this year.

Dates are flexible but hoping to go over beginning of August for a week.

Few questions:
[*]Is there a day of the week which sailing out and back from would work out cheapest?
[*]Does my auto homes (originally Bus) T25 class as a motor home or van when booking?
[*]Can anyone recommend cheap sites to book from?
[*]Do deals come up very often that we can take advantage of (sun deals etc)?

Have just put a quick search in and for 5 of us its coming back at £286. Sound about right? What should we expect to pay?

We are not too fussed where we land and sail from but would like to take into consideration fuel (golf gti engine) with regards to out final destination of SW France beaches.

Any help much appreciated, cheers guys

What ferry route are you using?? Dover-Calais should come out a lot cheaper than £286 OR is that for more than one vehicle?

Have a look further down this forum for ferry information and there might be some discount codes in there (might still be valid)

Look on your V5, that dictates what it is deigned to be. It should have been changed to read 'rigid body motor caravan' but many (if not most) weren't. In practice this allows you to do 70 on a dual-carriageway instead of 60 but also prevents it being considered as 'commercial' when booking ferrys etc.

Have a nice time and give us a wave  :cheese

LD Lines from Portsmouth to Le Havre would prob be your best bet. They do a crossing that departs Pompey about 23.00 and arrives early morning. They do sleeper seats as a cheaper option than cabins.

Thanks Guys.

To clarify it's 5 of us in total in the one camper/ Hopefully Portsmouth to Le Havre (although Poole would be amazing but pricey me thinks).

So far LD Lines direct from there website seems to be best. Just wondered if it's worth holding out for any deals that come around?

Cheers

Have you tried ferrysavers.com
It's a price comparison site for ferry bookings.

You wont get any cheaper than LD lines for a hampshire / dorset crossing, and their own website is usually cheapest bet. dont even bother with sh**tany ferries, itll be £500ish and the LD lines boats are much cleaner.

With a 5 way split itll be so cheap per person its not worth the pain of drivin 60 miles up the coast ad back across france to take advantage of the very cheap dover crossings.
