Autohomes roof finally dies

Two years ago it was dodgy, last season it was more than a bit iffy, but today when I gingerly attempted a test pop-up of my autohomes kamper roof in readiness for the summer, the rusty screws holding the rear panel into the rotten lid popped out, and as I tried to lower again I could feel yet more soft, rotted wood splintering around the pull down handle. That's it, it's got to go... and get replaced soon or two of us will be roughing it in the awning on our summer trips!
I think the most practical replacement for us will be a hi-top and I've been looking at the Timber Technicans website. Has anyone had one of these fitted? We need space so the kids can sleep in it, so I was wondering how these roofs compare (internal space wise) with something like the Automhomes (which gave plenty of room and was cosy until it started leaking and smelling mouldy!) Once fitted, lines etc, how much width and headroom would be available?
cheers!

Timbertechs supply and fit a large high top which can be ply lined & carpeted as required. Boards & a mattress can be fitted for ''upstairs'' sleeping accomodation. There are quite a number of happy campers on this forum who have had a high top fitted by Timbertechs.

Oh dear, another one's gone
Hoping there's a few more years left in our roof, although we have been 'talking' about a Timbertechs roof for quite a while now. Like Steve says, there's quite a few in 80-90 that have chosen the Timbertechs route, I'm sure they'll be along soon.

I too have thought about changing to a hi top but for now the pop top stays. There is a thread on here somewhere about a timber technicians conversion, from what I gather the quality is there but be prepared to lose quite a lot of internal space. Always loved the space my poptop has compared to others I've seen.
But i'd definitely love the extra storage space you get with a hitop.

Have a read of this thread. There is also a link to a new autohomes pop top roof at the top of page two

you can make a new roof very easily with plywood , inch par kingspan and woodscews and pva glue. my mate made me one on a saturday afternoon. we then covered the whole thing with a rubber pondliner and contact adhesive. its lighter than the old one waterproof and sadly still as ugly as the original.
