I have looked on the Wiki honest! But I still can't locate the gearbox oil drain plug. It must be on the bottom/lowest point of the gear box surely? Haynes manual does not seem to show it either.I could, of course, be being really thick here so do bare with me if it really is obvious.

Hi,
not sure what vehicle spec you have but on my diesel syncro the oil drain is at the back of the diff housing, below the clutch housing. It faces backwards rather than downwards and has a 17mm hexagon socket to receive a large 'Allen key' wrench. I would geuss that the 2wd gearbox is similar in this respect.

Just make sure you can undo the filler plug. Before removing the drain plug..

its on the bottom, almost as big as a twenty pence piece and the same shape......
dont remove the drain plug untill you are sure you can remove the fill plug, which is halfway up the side, behind the gearlink rod, just infront of the selector.(Or you'll be taking the box out to fill it)

Sorry, spec is 5 speed watercooled 1985 two wheel drive. Thanks I should be able to find it now. Thanks to everyone who recommends loosening up the filler/level plug; it's well furred up so I have started dripping penetrating oil on it. Cheers again to all.
