Hi all. Went to change the oil and the sump plug will not budge even after a lot of engine warming. Is there an alternative other than a fluid pump? Could I drain by removing the filter? Cheers. Ooh its an 84 DG

If you can get a quality 6 wall socket on it and a 1/2" T bar on it, then it will come undone..

But if prev persons/you have rounded the head then a little fettling with a file/dremel type thing/etc will be required to get some flats on it to be able to get a smaller socket on.. you may be able to knock on a sacrificial smaller socket though...

Without a vacuum device to suck it up the dipstick or filler tubes, its not easy, but you can undo the oil filler pipe nuts on the sump to get most of the oil out..

Why anyone feels the need to wragg sump bults so tight it either strips the thread or is nigh on impossible to undo I can never fathom.. that bolt isnt holding the engine in.. a new copper washer and a 1 handed nip up with a 13mm combination spanner is all thats needed...

indeed.... and why do people try and let oil out of a cold engine?

Thanks all. Managed to get it off using a breaker bar. Hulk must have done the last change because the oil filter was a pain too. It didn't have a washer either. I've replaced the sump plug just in case, Bosch filter instead of the fram, nice drink of 15/40.
Still sounds like a bag of spanners in a concrete mixer.

Total novice so good to have 80/90 as back up.

had the same problem on my sump. ended up draining the oil out via the strainer. sump plug is totaly round on mine, like that when i got the van.
