JX oil pressure sensors

Hi all

i have a 1986 JX turbo but it has been reconditioned.

my oil pressure warning light has been coming on intermittently - particularly when the engine is warm and the revs drop (when i come off the accelerator). it also seems to happen when i hit a speed bump but that may have another explanation.

Anyway I came across this thread which was very helpful:

https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=81377

but I would like confirmation of the correct replacement sensors if possible.

here is the sensor by the oil filter:
Image

clearly a grey switch - and has a yellow wire running to it (not shown). The underside of the switch said 0.75 - 1.05 bar

here is the sensor in the engine block:

it is brown and has a black/green wire running to it (shown). the rating on the underside of this sensor read 0.45 - 0.5 bar. From the above thread is that the "blue" that baxter is talking about? In other words is the brown sensor the blue one? :?

Also the pressure ratings dont seem to tally with what was stated in the thread for either sensor

I just need to know what sensors to buy to replace the ones I have got.

can anyone help?

Yes, it should be a blue switch[.3bar] this is the low pressure switch [on the front of the cylinder head].
The switch on the oil filter stand should be around 1bar.
Have a look at the"wiki"[at the top of the page next to "club 80-90"] loads of info there!.
Good luck.

thanks dave

from what you have said it seems i have the wrong low pressure switch - is that why the warning light was coming on? i.e. the pressure was dropping below 0.45 bar when in fact it only has to be above 0.3 bar?

if that is the case i can rest easy and not worry about the engine seizing whilst i get a new switch.

I'd be inclined to leave the low pressure switch that you have in, as it gives you an indication that your oil is getting a bit[too]hot.
I have an oil cooler and a.9bar low pressure switch and the oil light comes on [for a bit at tick over] after a fast? run.
If you have some spare cash and your worried about your engine get an oil cooler!.
Good luck.
