Was driving round the M25 and had the last thing any VW owner wants to see, smoke in the cab, After I was unable to find a cause of the smoke on the hard shoulder I continued until it started to rain. It seems some sort of wire has burt out somewhere as now my windscreen wipers dont work, I have checked the relay etc but can't find a fault.

Anyone seen this before or have any suggestions i should check?

Seems odd that after owning it for 3 years all of a sudden it decides to develop an electrical fault (among others)

solved the wipers, by changing a fuse!!!!!!! but it seems that the dash fan is not working, could this have been the cause for the wipers fuse to blow and the cause of the smoke?? any advice on diagnostic and changing the motor??

please ignore the above, just checked the wiki, that looks like a fun job!!! spending more time under VW's than driving Vw's!!!

You will have lost all your smoke now - time to top it up.

Damn, just taken my Merc. 508d for it's MoT - fiddled with the foglight switch as the light was intermittent and promptly filled the van with smoke. Looks like I've lost all my smoke out of the wiring also.
