Poor gear selection after clutch installation

Hi All,
I have been through the pain full experience of removing the spigot bearing and finally got everything back together and now have a new issue,
I cant select 1st, 4th or 5th, I am hoping that its something as simple as the linkage is not lined up correctly, I am going to have a play around with it tonight and also try and bleed the slave cylinder as the clutch feels very light now.
The fault that promoted this was a grinding noise when I dipped the clutch, the spigot was shot to pieces but I'm doubtful that this was the cause of the grind. The clutch pressure plate seemed to have a very fine score on the outside edge and small metal shavings were found inside the bell housing. I guess that this was the cause of the grinding noise, I have filed the sharp edge down, I am guessing that this was a slightly oversized part rather than incorrect installation as this is bolted to the fly wheel I cant see who this could be installed incorrectly. The release bearing did look slightly on the wonk so that has been re-installed.
Anyone got any thoughts on the gear selection and if the clutch release plate will cause any further problems?
Forgot to add, 1.9 petrol 5 speed gear box 1984 water cooled.
