Welding For MOT

My van goes in for its mot on wed. Its going to need welding on the front wheel arches near the seat belt anchor points. Any advice? Can anyone recommend a good welder near Gosport? I have heard that Scott at SGS air cooled near Curdridge is good, but is a bit hard for me to get there.

Why leave it till the day before the MoT to think about having the welding done?

I only just noticed it when I looked under the rubber mat and had a bit of a scrape around. And its been bank holiday weekend.

Easy enough to do, buy a welder have a crack yourself. the wheelarch overlaps the wheel tub/seat base and welded together.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Jim,
That's reassuring, hopefully it will be straight forward. I Don't fancy having a go myself though. My mate has a mig welder, maybe I should borrow it and do some practice on old pieces of metal. My front wheel bearing also failed on the way home from Dorset at the weekend, so that needs doing before I can drive any significant distance. I am a bit surprised it has failed as it was changed for last years MOT and has only done less than 2000 miles.

Thanks

Kev

Don't bet on MOT tester finding rot on seat belt mountings - some miss it! However, DO get them fixed!!!

Mot tester did miss the welding, however I will be getting them fixed, along with some other bits that will need doing.

I am going to borrow my friends mig welder on a long term loan and try to learn welding for myself. I am not going to practice on the van. I will get someone who knows what they are doing for now.

Go down the scrappys and get an old rust wing off a car and repair that, best way to learn as its proper rusty metal and not clean new steel

thanks for that suggestion, I will do that when I get the time to collect the welder and and get set up. I have been looking at various web sites and You tube videos to get an idea where and how to start.
