Getting the fridge to work?

Hi

We have a Electrolux fridge in our van, and it has 3 settings, looks like gas, battery, and plugging it in.

How do you get it to run off of the battery? and how long can it usually run before the battery actually dies?

Thanks!
Sean

It should have a switch to set it to battery and if correctly wired will only work while the engine is running as otherwise it will run the battery down very quickly. What model is it? there should be a label inside somewhere.

Forgot to say we are in Cambridgeshire too, about 6 miles north of Cambridge, if you want to pop around for a chat about fridges (how sad) please PM me for the address. I have just refurbished our Electrolux RM184 fridge so know a little about them.

It's a pity that the manufacturers don't put '12V' instead of a symbol of a battery on their appliances, then people wouldn't think that they are meant to be run from batteries.

I have been at this over the weekend in between work stuff. See this thread for more info and pics https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=84798" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As far as running it on 12v goes this should only happen when the engine is running and it should work off the leisure battery. It will run an ordinary cranking battery down quite quickly I think. When stationary your alternatives are gas or 240v. There is lots on the Wiki to help as well

It shouldn't run off any battery - that is the point, it should be run from the alternator.

Yes - thats what I meant - but it still runs through the leisure battery rather than dirctly from the alternator??? Mine always have on three buses.

It's academic. When the engine is running, the fridge, the leisure battery and the starter battery are all connected to the alternator and therefore to each other by default. My fridge is fed from the starter battery terminals via the relay which only completes the circuit when the engine is running and the alternator powers it using the cabling to the starter battery. Most I've seen use this method as it's by far the simplest to wire.
