Hi all
I have just fitted a standard exhaust to my 1982 2.0 CU Aircooled bus.
Can anyone advise if the system has or needs supporting brackets?
It seems that the the whole system hangs on with no support to cylinder head studs from the manifold.
This doesn't seem ideal as the silencer itself weighs a ton let alone the heat exchangers.

I've searched and found a few snippets on here, and some say it does hang on the cylinder studs alone but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Perhaps someone has made up their own brackets to take the strain?

on the whole yes it does hang on the studs.
There were some bracing bars on some models.. but I think no body does this any more.

I have not read any posts regarding fractured flanges or cracking header pipes.
steel is quite soft so energy to do this might be absorbed.
My pal shepster however, has had trouble with fractured flanges on a stainless system similar to yours.
But then stainless is much more of a brittle steel

Thanks Kev.........It doesn't seem ideal tho does it.......theres a hell of a lot of weight pulling down on the cylinder studs!

Buggered if i knew where it was meant to be fitted to the engine block somewhere?
