eyup ducks,i took marladys camel for an mot last week,and ended driving the sodding thing round in third gear,i fitted a skull gearknob on the shifter and it sticks right in me leg,its agony,so im going to take the stick off and weld a dogleg in it but i dont want to have to undo any selectors etc,does it just pull out by undoing the two bolts or is it a pig of a job................help me obi-wan-kenobi,your my only hope!

Short shifter kit from simon at the Brickyard ,fit it in 5 mins easy as , no more pain in the legg

put the skull thing back on e bay

marlady had bought the sodding thing from a bootsale before i had even sourced an engine for it!!!!!,to take it off would be like commiting..genital suicide.if you know what i mean

Buy an off-set extension like mine, stops you skinning your knuckles on dash. Also raises height by a few inches if you have non VW seats fitted.

This is just a postualtion so bear with me.

When the diesel gearstick was put on Jen's van at Coney, which is a 2.1, it moved the knob closer to the seat. Is there any reason you couldn't get a petrol gear stick and use that? Wouldn't that then move the knob away from your leg?

My shifter kit might cure the problem, but it sounds like the linkage has shifted/worn and is alowing the leaver over too far. I would check the swivel joint about half way along the chassis, in case its loose etc..
then inspect the bushes, the one near the box is easy to see if loads of play, the small bushes in the end of the lever are accessed from under neath, the bolt can go slack and give loads of play, too.
Unless the ball swivel in the floor has been disturbed then its not advisable to play around wityh that setting, it can be a real pain to find the "sweet spot" again.. but if it has been apart, then you prob have not much to loose in slackening the bolts/nuts and moving it a little.

i can see where you are all coming from,except i forgot to mention that im 6 foot 1 ish and now down to about 27.5 stone,if you dont believe me ask shepster....he knows!,so i need more room than average joe blogs,but there is no play whatsoever in the stick/linkages etc,its pruely down to extra length from custom gearknob and being driven by king kong...oo..oo..oo..oo..oo..oo..oo
