Hi All

Expecting the van back this week after re spray. Rather than cutting into the side body work, is there any where else the socket can go. Does anyone else have theirs in another location?

Do a search and you'll find that the EHU goes quite nicely on the service flap.

tho you might need to turn yours through 90 deg. as i dont have a oil fill pipe etc!

I had the same problem last summer - I bought a hookup with a push on cover and mounted it under the chassis - drilled a small hole through up into the cupboards above (lots of sealant etc around it) - it isn't in the direct path of the spray and is well protected as it faces backwards. Prevented me having to drill the new paint any more than absolutely necessary.

dont you get a very wet knee when plugging in on a wet site?

Surely if you mount on the flap then:
A) the flap has to remain open to some degree (is that a good idea?)
B) when it rains... and it surely will... water will run down the inside of the flap
C) if the cable socket is mounted in the position in last photo then if flap is raised
water stands more of a chance of creeping past the inserted male socket or down the cable

Most (if not all)? major converters of VW T25s put theirs on the outside rear panel of the van
with an external flap which when opened shields the socket making it more weatherproof
Surely this is the best place...or were they all wrong?

I know fitting conventionally means cutting into the side panel but no cables then run exposed to the zig or other units.

The OP wanted to know where to put the hook up connector without cutting the panel.
I think Mocki has answered it quite well.
There's no reasons I see that this location is as dangerous as you infer.
Rather than negative comments why not suggest an alternative then?

The comments were not meant to be negative as I was just playing 'Debvils advocate' as i consider IMHO that if you
mount on the rear flap then you should consider the points I mentioned... if nobody pointed these out
then how can an informed decision be made... As for alternative mounting then surely the major
manufacturers would have found and used one.

Mocki's answer was spot on but my points should be considered I have seen a few vans with
a fitting on the rear flap and it has always worried me in bad weather.

I was purely trying to look at it from the other side

So you have no practical experience of the socket mounted on the flap causing or creating any issues you mention.
You are then, in theory, hazzarding a guess at possible issues.

FYI euro sockets can be mounted in any orientation
In the many many years that mocki has had this mounted I'm sure if any safety issues were to have arisen... The administrator of the club would not recommend it's fitting on the flap.
Safety is paramount but any information should be based on facts. . Don't you think?

These types of plugs and sockets are IP44 which 'resists water spray from any direction'

Mine will eventually go on the flap, if i ever get around to it
the part that fits on the flap is the male part, so would be quite safe pointing up. As the female part fits over it. But on the other hand, if you asked the manufacturer, they would probably say not to fit like that, due to water tracking along cable and into the fitting

Mines on me flap.And i have had no problems with water ingress in the 5 years its been there

Leiduredrive put mine facing backwards under the floor... but they got most things wrong... and I do get wet knees... and it is annoying ... and I plan to put it on my flap now ive seen these photos!
