I've successfully used Rustoleum method on some whole panels but also need to work out how to spray from touch up cans without leaving marks where masking tape is! I;m rubbing down with successively fine papers and using hydrate 80 (like Vatcan) on bare metal then etch primer then rattle can with good enough effects BUT - do you need to leave an area around the area being sprayed for a small amount of overspray which can then be flatted back a bit with 1200 wet and dry and then polished up with compound? At present i stupidly always seem to spray right up to the masking tape and make a horrible raised edge line. Andvice very welcomed, thanks.

Basically - Yes you do.

I think thats how you're supposed to do it.....leave an area around it so you can feather the paint in with the spray.

I know that with 2 pack paints, there is a special "blender" that you can mix with the paint so that it eats into the old paint to form more of a bond, but that obviously doesn't apply to Rustoleum.

Thanks both, seems to make sense so not sure why i've never got hold of that, paint always seems the least important bit after all that grease and welding. Cheers.
