Hi all -1 . right first up is head lights - I would like to change over to mk 1 golf crystal clear units - now i have heard that a bit of welding will be needed for the mounting plates ? all so up rating the loom and relays - have seen that you can buy these on ebay for mk1 and mk2 golf, would they work for t25's as the head lights would be off a mk1 golf and just need one end changing to fit ?

2 . next up is i have just change my starter motor, as the last one had had it - a nice easy job bar one rusty nut and a slow turn.
So with it all up and running i thought all was good till round my mums house it wouldn't start - had a look and spotted it was the live cable end had snapped on the connector part - the 8mm washer part had snap off and the cable was just loose - got a mate round and fixed it temp with a bit of copper pipe flattened at one end and screwed onto the live cable - it works if not crude ~ so can i get a correct part to go over the 18mm cable and fix on to the 8mm bolt on the starter motor ? it would be like a battery connector i guess but bigger ? UPDATE - HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS A 24V LIVE CABLE AND WILL REPLACE WITH A 12V FROM THE BATTERY TO STARTER MOTOR

3 . any one know correct tire pressure for 16" merc steelies (will come back on tire size as i have forgotten )

4 . drivers side window glass slips down and i have to hook it back on to the silver clip/runner - is there some thing missing to look it down / across to stop it jumping off ?

5 . on the driver side floor plain is a cross line chequer board design - mine is braking up and a sheet plate under it - what can i do ? replace it with the same thing if they do one or get another plate welded onto it, so it's not so thin ?

6 . engine cover - can i lay a sheet of rubber over it, to stop the smell of diesel coming up into the back of the panel van - just some thing that i can lift up and move out the way when needed - but i don't want it to catch fire or so !

7 . exhaust back box - looking from the back at it - right hand side mounting point - is it two bolt that go through from chassis to box mount and has a rubber block between -mine is hanging off bar sitting on a nut and bolt on the van mount point -seems to be a half arsed job at some point - just would like to know how it is supposed to be - and if i buy a box off of ebay that it will fit and work like i think with the two bolts going through and not separate 4 bolts ?

1. With a bit of welding and uprating the electrics you could fit any type of headlights you wanted to. Whether you could get the aim right for the MOT is another questions.

2. Any auto-factors should be able to supply cable and terminal ends to suit. The reason a fatter 24v cable was fitted was probably the previous owner trying to get more juice to a sick starter motor.

3. Tyre pressures are normally marked on the side of the tyre. Are they commercial tyres?

4. Manual doesn't mention anything holding the glass in place on the runner. The seals in the door frame should keep it in place.

5. Hard to make out a coherent sentence in this question? If the step / floor is rotten then yes get a new panel / manhole cover / biscuit tin welded in. Just remember the fuel tank is under the floor.

6. If the engine is smelling of diesel then you really want to be finding the fuel leak first. If not I would suggest a fire blanket instead of a rubber sheet because it will give you a few more seconds to get out when the diesel leak catches fire. Once you've found the leak and fixed it the rubber seal around the engine bay lid should be more than capable of stopping any smells from the engine.

7. Similar to question 5 it's a bit hard to understand what you are asking? Try posting a photo, people love photos.

No, they're not - since they depend on the vehicle the tyres are fitted to.

The _maximum safe_ tyre pressures are marked on the sidewall, but they're WAAAAAY over what you should be using. Inflate to those pressures, and the ride will be awful, the grip restricted, and the life of the tyre shorter.

Yes, quite agree with you, but it a least gives a guide to work down from. Anyway as the wheels and tyres (commercial hopefully?) weren't designed for a T25 there isn't really a "right" tyre pressure anyway.

with reference to the smell of tractor fuel getting into the van via the engine lid...... it should have a seal under it, round the rim of the hole, has yours not got it?
and as the other poster said, id be looking for the leak, and if you have the engine lid seal, where is really comming into the van .......

Its just a thick hard rubber/bitumen type mat, thats put on when new
