Petrol filler pipe damage

A complete idiot friend of my sisters let his handbrake off on a 1in6 drive and rolled into my van. He hit the rear drivers quarter and has apparently fractured my petrol filler pipe right near the top near the filler (it's a Syncro). I only noticed this because I filled up on the way home, and when I got back there was a stink of petrol and a few drips.
I drove about 70 miles and didn't die - is it safe to carry on using my bus (I won't 'fill right up') and what can I safely use to patch it until the insurance people decide they've done enough paperwork and don't (pray hard) write my van off?

if it just the pipe work split/damaged you could try some self amalgamating tape

Cheers Stu - hopefully it's just the pipe, the bodys got a nice pointy dint, but nothing else seems to have shifted as far as I could tell......

depends on how bad its damaged but you can by those "petro patch" jobbies from halfords and the like designed for repairing tanks that might do it? about the van unless you've got a agreed value policy for quite a bit with a specialist it's going to be a write off most insurance company's go on about 75% of market value of vehicle for repairs sorry

I have specialist insurance (I'm not a complete fool), it has a 16k recon engine and a westy interior, in a RHD Syncro - whatever damage costs there are won't write it off.....
And bought a 'petro patch' earlier, fingers crossed.......
