hi all just wondering if anybody has abs on there syncro,im currently just trying to suss out how the system over rides
when the diff lock in activated,ive an actuator leak just now so cant see whats really going on till i get that sorted, on
ignition i get a double click from a relay on the abs pump itself coinciding with a double flash of the (green light) on the rear locker possition on the display panel.
is this the normal charateristics of the abs system it appers to be working as far as in the orange light goes off after hitting a couple mph...havent tryed to lock up it up as yet so dont know if its acctually kicking in...any thoughts on this one would be welcome...cheers all:)..xriss

throw it in the bin. abs is an accident waiting to happen.

I have yet to lock up a wheel on my syncro under normal driving conditions ......

yeh its a bit over kill with such puney brakes when u ever going to need it....and with that option i dont get a swivle seat on the drivers seat..(altantic by the way)...ahh well i wouldent have chosen that as an option..@ 3500 DM

I think that Torchy has ABS on his syncro. Abs should be mandatory for young drivers and would save lives. In a syncro not so necessary, but it's the unexpected times when you really need it, and for that one time could make a big difference in the outcome. I have participated in abs and non abs tests under controled situations and I would rather have it.

The only time I ever rear ended another car was in an ABS equiped Audi; Id rather have a brake pedal that worked as opposed to one that massaged the sole of your right foot as you glide into impact.

It was a surreal experience to have a pedal that seemed disconnected and unresponsive to the force being put on it.

I accept the point about young and inexperienced drivers; but i wonder if I would ever have learnt what i have about the road if i had had ABS and airbags in my old Morris 1000

When you see side by side tests between abs and non abs equipped cars you can really see the benefit. If you are going too fast for then nothing, even abs will not save you. It is why the car industry has now made abs standard on all new cars. Try doing an emergency stop on a sharp bend, in the wet, when you are just changing radio chanel, you will fail. That is the scenario where abs really makes a difference.

I accept the advantage of the technology in some circumstances but can't we go back to teaching that everyone else on the road is potentially an idiot /out to get you and anticipation, hazard awareness, braking distance and appropriate speed, so that above scenario shouldn't occur and when it does you are already in control; just a thought

abs dont work on snow. i nearly killed myself a few years ago driving on snow with abs. abs on the syncro only goes off with difflocks on which you wouldn`t really need on snow so abs syncro on snow for me would be a big no no.

I agree with Aiden, get rid of air bags, abs, even seat belts etc. and fit a 6" spike to the steering wheel centre ,that may slow things down a smidge ???

For the emergrncy services having a non abs car would be seen in the same light as driving on bald tyres. It just is better.

Shall we scrap all vehicles without abs ??? what would I do without my old beetle { no seatbelts -airbags -abs-etc.) I find it's best to engage the brain ? ps I've been a biker for 50 years and only have a few scars
