hi all
have finally sorted out a starting probolem on our van. 1987 1.9 100k on clock. starter failure.
Now all of a sudden a very loud tappet like noise. IS it safe to drive the van or does it need further investigation?

Any suggestions or advice
regards

tappet noise is normal if the van has been parked for a while.
they leak oil out of the little cylinder and have to "pump up" and thats best done with hot oil

Take it for a long run (20 mins) and it should quieten down

The noise also could mean it's time for an oil change.
20w 50 mineral shuts tappets up... as does 15w 40

hi
Sorry i didnt reply but advice on running van for a few miles stopped the tappet noise. Been away for our first weekend in van. Great fun only thing we forgot were the matches to light cooker on first night . Had to drink beer til the morning. :D

Cheers
