Hi,

Just bought F45ti awning & t3 mounting brackets, all good, from John Cross (best price I could find).

Looking at the nut and bolt fixing for awning it seems a 2 minute job with spanner and someones away with it. For the money spent I'm a little worried. Anyone got a sensible suggestion for a more secure fixing?

would be interested in any idea's about security for the awning,the gutter brackets on my hightop had a lot of sealer in them and I had to cut some out where the brackets fitted inside the gutter as the bracket would not 'sit' in the gutter low enough for the outer clamp to bolt on to the inner bracket(if that makes sense),still had a job to get them bolt together so I'm hoping they will be hard to remove

That's what I have done and so far so good. There's a lot of toe rags around here too.

Now I must go and touch some wood!!!

I keep meaning to get some snap nuts and test them on a bolt to see if I can get them off and how long it takes me. If I can and it's not quick and within the realms of an opportunist then they will be going on.

a little on the pricy side though, there seem to be a few other options for nuts on this site but won't give you flexibilty to tighten

What's stopping someone using a pair of mole grips to hold the nut??


Besides I wouldn't discuss security of parts on an open forum - use PMs or Members Only

It would be very difficult to remove the nuts using just a pair of molegrips, especially on coachbolts. Would not be an easy steal

No, don't think so??? I've a couple of flat plate steel brackets that bolt together (which could be removed with ease). The awning is then fixed with couple of ph bolts fed from inside awning housing though the fixing plates then nut screwed on to outside (again could be removed with ease, althought slightly more awkward as they face the upstand of pop up housing.

I just removed an F45 awning from my hightop van and the phillips head bolts that hold the awning to the brackets were on the outside and pushed up into the bracket and then the awning housing (with the nuts on the inside of the housing). Removal of the nuts was only possible by opening the awning a good distance (which may deter an opportunist thief). If you tried to undo the phillips head bolt from the outside then the nut on the inside would turn as well so removal was not possible. It could be different on later models ?

It's more to do with the brackets that fit to the roof gutters

Yeh ok I see what you mean.
On the hightop the brackets were bolted to the roof and the bolts covered by the awning but on a poptop its not so easy to secure.

I've opted for secure nut system(link shown in earlier post). I've enough thread on the supplied domed head bolt to potentially double up with supplied nylock nut, hopefully retaining option to tighten if required.....will let youall know how it goes.
