i am going to have a go at changing my pushrod seals myself as i have read on here that they are easy to do, the only thing im not sure of is which ones are best to use? and how many of each side do i need?, ive just been under the van and this is definatly the source of my oil leak, it looks like someone has covered the seals in silicone to try and stop them leaking

gsf for the seals, they are obsolete from vw. well either the big or small ones are!!
you will need eight small and eight big ones.
pay attention to the position of the retaining wire in the head.
oil pressure switch iirc is under the top tinware. nearside. is it working? if so why strip the tins?
they normally last forever and a day

well i just read somthing about if this sensor is not working then there could be too much pressure causing the engine to push oil out of anywere it can, and if that is the case it will just leak again after ive replaced the pushrod seals,
is this not correct then?

pressure relief valve is nothing to do with oil pressure switch.
your van is leaking because as per 99% of older aircooleds which have had an uncaring previous owner the seals havent been changed.
i seriously doubt your relief valve is stuck.

Yeah most people just live with the leak ( i couldnt) but a lot of people do, therefore those seals are probably donkeys old, and with time they just perish. On an Aircooled VW they are just one of those things that need doing regularly thats all!

Speaking from experience I'd avoid the GSF seals. They're just basic O rings. Had mine done and 2 weeks later they were leaking again.
