Hi folks,
I'm in the process of prepping my wedge for a new paint job which I'm doing myself.
Just wondered if anybody could help on how much paint and lacquer I'd need for a proper job? I already have primer, so no worries there.
Thanks in advance

Oh, it's a doors on windows in job, sorry. I know that's not ideal, but I'm not looking for a showroom finish.
I'm looking at a standard gloss lacquer, cellulose or similar.

Hi,
I bought 7ltrs of VW Pastel White (PPG Deltron 2K) direct gloss.
The mix is 3:1 with 15% thinner, this is enough to do the exterior of the van including all door shuts, Hi top and leave a little over for later when needed.
Hope that is of some help.
Tim

Cellulose is still available depending on application. If it's for historic vehicle, then no probs, but our vans aren't quite there yet. So providing you're painting a trailer to match your bus, or a boat or ... but NOT your bus, then it can be supplied to you. From what I could work out last year, this is kinda self-policed by the suppliers, with possible checks by local authorities. I painted bits of my van with celly last year....

Thanks for all the info so far guys. I guess what I'm looking for, is the same type of paint and lacquer that you'd buy from Halfords, but loose so I can use it with a spraygun and compressor.

3M do a plastic rope stuff that you put under the edge of window rubber so you dont get paint edges and once removed, looks great.
I'd steer clear of cellulose and use a 2 pack especially as you are using clear-over-base paint system; will look nice and be far more durable too. Do make sure to follow H&S guides as the product is toxic. Depending on how many repairs you've done, I'd allow for 3 ltrs of base coat colour and 2.5 of lacquer. Dont use anything but 2 pack primers over bare metal as cellulose wont give adequte rust protection.
Best to go to a local autobody paint factors and seek their advice for best primer and it's colour for a metallic blue (probably grey)

That sounds just like what I'm looking for. I like the sound of the 3M stuff for the window rubbers.
Many thanks for the good advice.
