A little help please!!

Hi all, sorry about the probably idiotic question but Im struggling to get my fridge to work.

Basically this is what I have to deal with, sorry it's so dirty, no point in cleaning it until I know it works!

I have the gas switched on, I know that because my hob and grill work perfectly, but I can't get this to ignite whatever I do.

I have turned the dial to 3, am holding it in, press the igniting button (yes Im sure there is probably a proper name for this but I can't think of it) and looking through the little peep hole. Now I can see a spark but no flame igniting. Am I doing something wrong?

Also what does it need to be on to work off the 12V leisure battery. I know how to switch my battery on from the control/panel box thing so that's not a problem, but not the flipping fridge.

Any help please, short of throwing it out?

Thanks very much, kellye x

try pushing the ignitor loads of times, often takes a while to get um to light as the pipe might be air locked for the gas to come through! Plus is the van/fridge level??

there may be a seperate isolation tap on the gas pipes for the fridge, usually two together one cooker, one fridge, and yes if not used for a while can take a while to get gas through, but also spider nests and dust and debris can block up the jet

I had a problem lighting my fridge, we took it out & found there was a little pile of carbon on the bit that creates the spark at the back (I'm no good at tech part speak either  ) once removed the fridge was pretty easy to light.....they do take some time to get going though; persevere!!!!

1) The 12V option only runs off the alternator when the engine is running
2)Check that the gas is on as suggested above.
3)I have no picture so is yours a 3 way fridge? If so switch over to mains power to see if the fridge is working.
4)You may need to take the fridge (electrolux?) out and turn it upside down to get the cooling fluid going. This advice comes from the electolux manual and it worked for me.
5) The igniter and associated bits may need replacing. However spiders and other insects have been known to disrupt the igniter and gas jet outlet so it may be a case of carefully cleaning these bits.

If it is still not working after step 4 above then the fridge may need replacing.
Good luck

Thanks so much everyone!

Well, I gave it a good clean, checked all the connections, tipped it upside down and persevered with the ignitor, and eventually got it working.

I still can't figure out how to get it working on the 12v, but Im just going to work around it and use gas. Im pretty positive it's not a 3 way but that's fine with me.

One last question, how long does/should it take to cool down, the ice bit was icy within about 20 minutes, but the rest of the fridge felt very lightly chilled, not cold really?

thats the freezer box so if it's getting icy in 20 mins it'll freeze beer and bacon over night in the bottom of the fridge

get a little temp gauge for it.. 4 deg C is optimum for a fridge
