Hi all
Anybody know of good online supplier of sheet metal that isnt going to either rip me off on the price of the metal or the postage?.
Ive tried a few local sheet metal companies and there either not interested or the offcuts they chuck arent big enough for what I need.
I need some 2mm and some 1mm
cheers
James

Hi James, you dont really need sheet suppliers as they dont really get involved in bits so to speak, find fabricators, blacksmith type places , I dont know braintree but I will bet a pound (fortune up norf)that I could source it within the hour,

Ive tried mike
It has proved to be quite hard, there wasnt much engineering left in braintree before the reccesion hit, not many small firms that would help are left

Service metals didnt seem interested in the quantity I wanted, dont need a lot just about 500mm by 500mm of 2mm and about 1000mm by 500mm by 1mm.

I got some 1mm for free from a local sand-blasting company......I brought my lawnmower to him to blast the deck and he took pity on me and gave me a big lump of 1mm metal (there wasn't much left of the lawnmower after blasting it)
He said it was stuff used to make round bale feeders for cattle.....there was some kind of coating on it, but he blasted it off fairly easily.

Ive heard it all now, galvanised sheeting at greater cost than mild steel, you get it given and the giver expends time to remove the zinc coating.

good work

Just get it off ebay then - you made it sound as though you wanted large pieces!

"The offcuts they chuck arent big enough for what I need"
As you didn't specify approx. dimensions that is all the information that there is to go on! The inference is that you didn't want small pieces.
Just pay the postage - you would most probably spend more than that in fuel driving around the various places.
