Hi

I am in the planning stage of doing camping tour of Wales.

I got my route from the north sorted out down to Aberystwyth.

However need some advice on places of interest for South Wales. Castles, mines, views anything like that!

Any advice?

The Big Pit mining museum (its free) in Blaenavon

Abergavenny Castle

Also try and get along to Pembrokeshire - beautiful/stunning scenery and coastline.

The Gower peninsula near Swansea too.

And don't forget the Brecon Beacons - lots of wonderful walks or mountain bike trails. The canal between Brecon and Abergavenny is lovely too - a good campsite next to it in LLangattock called Park Farm or lots of sleepy/wild camping spots.

So many fantastic places down here. This place is a good half day out especially if you've got younger kids cos they can pan for gold. Not too far from Aberystwyth.

From Aberystwyth you can travel inland through Devils Bridge and on through the Elan Valley, take the B roads.
Red Kite feeding centre when you get to Rhyader.
Or travel down the coast road to St Davids (can highley recommend coasteering).
If you get to the Gower try to stay at Three Cliffs Bay campsite for the best view from any uk campsite.

Just a few suggestions.

there is also dan yr ogof show caves in the swansea valley and the stunning henrhyd waterfalls in the dulais valley.

i was planning on going to the three cliffs campsite and if i have the wrong one on this link please point me to the right one as this one sounds awful.... or at least the staff do according to other campers experiences found on this link,

3 cliffs is the most beautiful beach i been too but dont know about the site.there are plenty of sites around there tho.port eyenon is another nice place

The area around st davids is awsome - Ive been going there since I was a kid and it never ceases to make me happy, I can recommend pencwnwc farm campsite near st davids for families and Porthclais farm site (google either)for basic but stunning views!

Check out the blue lagoon near porthgain harbour (great pub called the sloop), walk the coast path and enjoy, then just follow the coast all the round through tenby to the gower! cant beat i for a coastal road trip...

Yes thats the correct site. I,ve stayed there a few times, there is a warden who stays on the site, and not much gets past him, but its not such a bad thing. Its only good if the weather is good, and not much for the kids once they've done the beach.
They are limited to the number of decent pitches, but i think its worth taking a chance for a night. take a look at the pitch first, if its not suitable go to Port Eynon, good site with plenty to do, much better for the kids, right on the beach, but sheltered with a pub and cafe close too.

I live in Abergavenny if you come here i would recomend you visit Llanthony Priory also Wales oldest and most haunted inn the Skirrid which happens to be one of my fav haunts (excuse the pun!) both are within 6 miles of each other. There are plenty of places to camp close by.

Oh yeah - if you get down as far as Abergavenny / Monmouth, pop over the border to my patch in the forest of dean - free camping aplenty on all the forestry car parks etc ( i can let you have some more tucked away spots as well) - at this time of year the forestry dont seem to move anyone on.
