hey,

thats me just changed my oil and filter...started it and the ticking sound is still there...can I drive it a little to get the oil going round or should I leave it idle? I'm scared of doing damage to my engine because if it is a tappet then it could get even worse if I drive it? its a 1.9 petrol watercooled 1984...

cheers!!

James.

Did someone tell you that or is it the remnant of a recent nightmare :D

Shh! if its a hydraulic tappet, then it might get better, but being an igno, don't know if yours has 'em

hey,

I dunno if it has hydraulic tappets...so driving it around with the oil light on isnt gonna screw it up? im absolutely gutted...whats the point eh? im considering suicide because this is awful...my wife has left me cause my van doesnt work and all Iv got to show for this van is a f***ing debt, I can hear the cold hammering of my heart at night which replicates the cold sound of my f***ed up engine...yeah well i think u know how i feel about it...nah just kidding..but its a bit annoying..any pointers on where to go from here?

cheers!!

chill chukas, several courses for you to take.
1. drop your van off at a garage like brickyard in huddersfield to look at it (probalby best if you were struggling with an oil change.)
4. clean up the contacts on your dashboard conectors
3. check oil pressure with an oil pressure tester.
heres all about oil pressure sensors http://www.benplace.com/oil_pressure_sender.htm
4. drive it 'till it dies with your AA recovery payed up.
6. record the sound and email it to some one to put up here might not be as bad as you think.
just a few thoughts for you

I agree plenty of good options, No.1 get to a proper T25 shop like Brickwerks for a diagnosis. If however, it does turn out to be genuinely low oil pressure, lets not kid ourselves that fitting a new pump often solves the problem. The wear to produce congenital low oil pressure is usually throughout the engine, particularly the bottom end.

well, it's been known

You really need a gauge plugged into the oil sender above the pulley to see what pressure you have actually got on idle and above 2,000 rpm

hey, the AA trick is the first thing you should do!! my wifes fiesta kept stopping (whenever) so i did it, he went through a checklist, told me it was the intank fuel pump. it was.. anyway back to yours, if its just ticking and not knocking or rumbling all is not lost.

I think you should just take her to a garage, i mean think of her sitting out there everyday just waiting to be fixed man. Treat her good, sort her out. Where do you live maybe i could pop round have a look?

there is something to be said for pactdonkeys comment !!!!!!! but try to find a garage that fixes older cars, as some of them out there wont even look at it for you. there is a lot of tossers out there.
